One promising route to a better understanding of black holes is to study them in two-dimensional AdS space. The goal in this approach is to identify the dual quantum mechanics that describes matter in the presence of such a black hole. In this research with Aaron Simons, Andrew Strominger, and Xi Yin, we take a step in this direction by identifying the ways in which branes could be configured around one of these black holes.
