Hi David,
Your blog is awesome! The pictures of all the birds are beautiful. What kind of camera are you using? I have been bird watching for 12 years in between baby squirrel seasons. The last two fall seasons I have been in Cape May NJ, watching the fall migration. I bring my cannon sure shot digital with me just so I don't forget what I've seen. I just recently went to Ridley Creek Park and to my surprise I found a Pileated Woodpecker and a pair of black throated blue warblers behind the mansion.
I also did the Christmas bird count for this area on Sat.and found a red shoulder hawk in Bryn Mawr. I'm glad I ran into your Mom and Dad, sad it had to be at Ann's funeral, it was nice to find out that you are a bird watcher to. Take care, Cindy Steven your old neighbor in Ardmore.

Ack, yes, that was a typo. I had specifically looked up the Flicker in the Peterson guide to check which one it was... and then I wrote down the wrong name. Thank you!

Hi, Eva. Thanks for looking him up for me. This butterfly was on the hill next to the ice rink. Right before I found him, I am pretty sure I saw a Phoebe, but he flew off before I could get a photograph. It really is spring!

David, we have a guide to butterflies and moths. This is a butterfly called Mourning Cloak (Latin name: Nymphalis antiopa).

Where exactly and when did you see him? At this time of the year? It's still very cold. The description in the guide says that it lives in Europe and temperate Asia, but occurs in North America to Central Mexico.

I've never seen ANY butterflies around here at this time of the year. Maybe it's a sign of global warming.

I enjoy your photos very much, but if you could say when and where you took the photo, that would be great.

Also, I'm not technically knowledgeable enough, but wonder if there is a way for your blog to send links to your blog postings to the Chestnut Hill Reservoir Forum?

Best,

Eva
